2010 Kentucky Open

The Kentucky Open

A State Championship Event - 5 round Swiss, Game 90.

Location St Francis High School, 233 W Broadway, Louisville, KY 40202

Enter from 3rd street - free parking garage adjacent.

KCA dues required for all Ky residents $8 adults, $4 Seniors and Juniors, $15 Family.

Registration - 8:30 - 9:30 Saturday. Rounds Saturday at 10, 2, and 5:30. Sunday rounds are at 9 and 2. Half point bye available any round, must request before round 2.

Prizes $3,150 total gtd. If entries exceed 95 prize fund will be increased.

3 sections Open, U1800, U1400. EF Open and U1800 $40 if received by 6/1, $45 after/on site. EF U1400 Section $25 if received by 6/1, $30 after/on site

Prizes Open 1st 700, 2nd 400, 3rd 250, X 150, A 150.

U1800 1st $400, 2nd 300, B 150, C 150.

U1400 1st 250, D 100, E 100, U1000 100, U800 50.

Unrated play in open or U1400 section. In U1400 unrated can only win $100 - balance of prize split to other prize winners in section.

The top Kentucky players will earn invitations to the Kentucky Closed. The number of invitations available will be posted at the tournament. Players must enter before round 2 and complete the tournament to qualify for a KY Closed invitation. Invitations will go to players in the Open section based on order of finish. If any invitations remain then they will be filled with players from the U1800 section and then the U1400 section.

The top Kentucky junior players will earn invitations to the Kentucky Junior Closed. There will be five invitations available from the KY Open. Players must enter before round 2 and complete the tournament to qualify for a KY Junior Closed invitation. Invitations will go to players in the Open section based on order of finish. If any invitations remain then they will be filled with players from the U1800 section and then the U1400 section. If invitations still remain, then additional invitations will be issued based on order of finish in the KCA State High School Individual Championship.

The Urban Chess Open

Location: Simmons College of Kentucky, 1018 South 7th Street, Louisville, Kentucky 40203. Please use map quest for directions. Or call (502) 776-1443.

Sections: There will be four sections: unrated, under 600, under 1,000 and under 2,000. This is a cash prize tournament. Cash prizes will be awarded based upon entries received.

There will be a 70% pay out in the under 2,000 section based on 20 entries. There will be a 70% pay out in the unrated section based on 20 entries. There will be a 60% pay out for the other two sections based on 10 entries each.

REGISTRATION: Use separate individual entry form for each player. If you plan to register at the site, you need to bring completed paperwork by 9:15am. Your information must be added to tournament software before the matches can begin. USCF identification number is essential to have the tournament rated and needs to be known in advance in order to put players in appropriate division. Include the expiration date or if new, write “new” in the space. Students – List school or organization name on entry form (Example: Scout Troop #8 or PL Dunbar H.S. and grade.)

FORMAT: Swiss for the adults and teams; Modified for the scholastic. Each player will have 45 minutes to play each game. Four rounds: First round starts at 10am. Second, third, and fourth rounds will start as soon as possible after the previous match. The day’s events will last from 10am-5pm followed by an opportunity to register for Quick Chess.

AWARDS: Gold, Silver & Bronze will be given in the following categories:
Open/Beginner: Overall, 50 & Over, 20 – 49, 19 & Under, Women
High School: Overall, Senior, Junior, Sophmore, Freshman, & Team consisting of 4 players
Middle High School: Overall, 8th grade, 7th grade, 6th grade, & Team consisting of 4 players
Elementary School: Overall, 5th grade, 4th grade, & Team consisting of 4 players
Primary School: Overall, 3rd grade, 2nd grade, 1st grade, Kindergarten, & Team consisting of 4 players

RULES: United States Chess Federation tournament rules.
EQUIPMENT: Bring sets, boards, and chess clocks if you have them.
SANCTION: United States Chess Federation, but membership will not be required.
